Marc LePoole Speedo Sting - Victoria (February 9-12, 2012)
BCs only Group 1 National Qualifier

NORTH SHORE DOLPHINS DIVERS ON THE PATH TO CANADIAN JR NATIONALS

At the 2012 Sting there were teams from Alberta, Manitoba and Washington State as well as BC's premier dive clubs.  Most events had large numbers of competitors and some of Canada's best divers were there.  As BC's only Group 1 National qualifier this meet is important for those divers trying to become qualified to compete at Canadian Jr Nationals.

What a weekend it was for the North Shore Dolphins!  We had 11 divers qualified to compete at the Sting making the Dolphins the third largest team there.

5 of our divers obtained National qualifying scores; there were 5 Dolphin medals; and our divers had a total of 12 podium finishes!

In addition, Alison K earned top honors by beating the "Sting Standard" (also known as "getting Stung at the Sting").  Alison's gold medal score on the 1m board was 255 (well over the 240 Sting Standard for her event) and she was one of only eight divers to beat the standard at this year's Sting.

National qualifying scores were obtained by the following divers:

C Age    12/13 Years:
• Sam (Tower, 3m, 1m)
• Kaelyn (3m, 1m)
• Nick (3m, 1m)

D age    11 and Under:
• Alison (3m, 1m)
• Ellie (1m)

BC Diving Christmas Camp (Vancouver - December 28, 29, 30)

It was a strong Dolphins turn out at the 2011 BC Diving Christmas camp with Dolphins competitive divers Sophie, Sam, Nick, Morgan, Makayla, Kaelyn, Cristian, Celine and Alison in attendance.  There was lots of dry land, divining, lectures, friends and even a fun meet.  Sophie, Makayla and Celine wowed parents with their front fall-ins off 5m and straight jumps off the 10m while Sam was doing back somersault lay-out off 10m.  Cristian learned inward 1.5 somersault on 3m and Alison did back 1.5 with 1/2 twist on 3m.  Kaelyn and Alison were top Dolphins in the jumping contest and Kaelyn worked on her front 2.5 somersault on 3m.  Nick did front arm-stand somersault on 5m (with some assistance by Stuart) and back 1.5 somersault with 1/2 twist on 3m.  Our camp superstar though was Morgan, the youngest diver at camp and our newest team member, who did all the dry land and diving, learned jumps on 5m and did just about everything else despite the newness of it all!  Best tip of the year - Bev telling all the divers to remember what the last thing the judges see and POINT THOSE TOES :-)  Voted most fun this year was the rope swing and of course bubbles on the last day.

Special thanks go to Jayne and Bev from BC Diving for putting on such a great event which our divers look forward to every year!  Also a big thank you to all the coaches who make this camp such a great learning experience: Brian, Grant, Alana, Keri, Bev and of course our own Kostya and Stuart.

Provincial Team Training Camp (November 11, 2011)

Dolphins team divers Alison, Nick, Sam and Rebecca were invited to participate in this year's Provincial Team training camp held in Victoria, BC. Attendance included divers such as 2011 women's Senior Nationals 1m Champ Emma Friesen, triple 2011 C Age National Champ Emily Schmidt and a host of other very talented divers, coaches and officials.  Kostya's National divers from Fraser Valley, Kailee, Kurt and Julia also attended.  The day was full of diving and dry land training and assessments led by  coaches Tommy, Lisa, Bev, Grant, Alana and of course our very own Kostya.  The divers all worked very hard and had a long day full of jumps, twists, flips and rips.  Best of all, our divers got to meet their friends from other clubs and spend a fun day training together!  Thanks to BC Diving and Boardworks for hosting such a super event.
